A tourist attraction in Gwynedd, GreenWood Forest Park will be the new home to a series of textile artwork from local artist Josie Russell.
Josie who is a freelance textile artist lives in Gwynedd and creates beautiful artwork using fabrics and materials. She creates one off commissioned pieces as well as collections of work.
The artists latest collection is called ‘favourites’ and it includes the pieces; Snowdon, Boats from Anglesey, Menai Bridge, Llanddwyn Lighthouse, Valley at Night and Map of Wales.
Josie said this about her artwork “I am very concerned about current ecological issues, and strive to keep my environmental impact to a minimum. I became aware very early on that beautiful, unique artwork does not have to cost hundreds of pounds to create or cause a detriment to our surroundings. Only the bare minimum of my required materials are bought new – canvasses, certain threads, or spare parts for my sewing machine. The rest – frames, buttons, beads, ribbons, and off-cuts of strange, striking fabrics – are sourced from extensive rummaging in my local charity shops, recycled from my own clothes, or else kindly donated by generous family and friends”
The pieces of artwork will go on display in GreenWood Forest Park’s Great Hall on Monday 9thFebruary, Josie will available to talk about her pieces on that day between 10am and 11am.
