International Acclaim for Eco-Roller Coaster GREENWOOD PICKS UP INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL AWARD NORTH Wales's leading family adventure tourist attraction, GreenWood Forest Park, has received international acclaim for the eco-friendly technology behind its Green Dragon roller coaster. The "Best use of Technology" category was part of Responsible Travel's Responsible Tourism Awards, in which finalists were selected from all over the world. GreenWood's two company directors, husband and wife team Stephen and Andrea Bristow, travelled to London's Excel International Conference Centre where the presentations were held on Wednesday, November 16. It is the second time this year that the park at Y Felinheli has received an environmental award. In June it won the Sustainable Tourism award as part of the 8th annual Wales Environment Awards, organised by the Arena Network. Stephen Bristow, managing director, said: "We are absolutely delighted that our Green Dragon roller coaster, which is the world's first eco-coaster, has been singled out for international recognition. "As a company we strive to give everyone a great day out but we are also keen to promote environmental awareness and conservation." GreenWood Gains Major Environmental Award
The sustainability award won by GreenWood Forest Park requires organisations to have an understanding of the overall business impacts and the need to address sustainability. This may be shown by, for example, resource management and their relationships with local communities. Winners must demonstrate that they have minimised environmental impacts as a result of improvement programmes. She said: "We are delighted to receive the award as it reflects the hard work put in by the whole team at GreenWood. Part of our work is to raise awareness of environmental issues and the award helps in that process." |
